Mio KOBAYASHI joined Tokyo Gas in 1993. He has consistently worked in the construction and maintenance of gas pipelines, particularly focusing on seismic design. As a leading engineer in the seismic and civil engineering fields, he has contributed to the safety of Tokyo Gas Network’s trunk pipelines and storage facilities by evaluating and proposing seismic assessment methods. For over 20 years, he has led revisions of industry guidelines in seismic design within the domestic city gas industry. Recently, he served as the chief reviser for the Japan Gas Association’s storage technology standards.
In addition to obtaining Professional Engineer certification in 2003 and getting his Doctor of Engineering from Nagoya University in 2022, he served on Board of Directors of the Japan Association for Earthquake Engineering in 2022-2024. Internationally, he has contributed to the safety of global gas distribution networks through various pipeline-related research papers and presentations at international conferences.
His involvement with the IGU Transmission Committee began in 2016, where he has served multiple terms and led several study groups. He has also been responsible for hosting successful committee sessions in Tokyo and has reviewed abstracts for the Transmission sessions at the 27th and 28th World Gas Conference.
