As of January 2025, Dr. Gerard Martinus works as Manager Strategy and Communications, as well as Coordinator Energy Transition, supervising and supporting various internal and external projects targeted at furthering the knowledge on the role of Natural Gas and the emergence of new gasses in the development of a more sustainable energy system. He is Chair of Committee on Research, Development and Innovation of the International Gas Union (IGU) since 2018. Before that, Gerard has contributed to the Working Committee on the Utilization of Natural gas, with a focus on domestic and commercial applications.
In 2007 Gerard joined GasTerra as a business analyst in the Department for Strategy and Optimization, with a focus on the demand, supply, and value of flexibility in natural gas delivery. In this period he was an active member of IGU Working Committee 2 on Underground Gas Storage. Before joining GasTerra, Gerard has previously worked as a researcher in the Policy Studies unit of the Energy research Centre of the Netherlands (ECN, now part of TNO) for almost five years, and at Statistics Netherlands. In 1998, he obtained a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Groningen.
