Düsseldorf-based Uniper is an international energy company with activities in more than 40 countries. With around 7,000 employees, it makes an important contribution to security of supply in Europe. Uniper procures gas – including liquefied natural gas (LNG) – and other energy sources on global markets. Carsten Poppinga has been working in the energy industry since 2001. Prior to assuming his position as CCO of Uniper, he was the Managing Director of Statkraft Markets GmbH in Germany (2008-2011) and OMV Trading GmbH in Vienna (2011-2014). Additionally, he held the role of Vice President Proprietary Trading at Statkraft Markets GmbH in Germany (2015-2017) and assumed the function of Senior Vice President Trading & Origination Europe and USA in 2017 until 2023.

Apart from his position as CCO of Uniper, he holds a PhD in mathematics.
