Graduated in Chemical Engineering at the Politecnico of
Milan, Maurizio Zangrandi was recruited by SNAM in
1991.
He began his career in the Technical Department before
being appointed Anticorrosion Manager in 1994.
In this period, he was responsible for the definition of the
company standards, material approvals, field activities
support and laboratory tests.
In these years, he has also been Technical Secretary of the Sub‐Committee C1
“corrosion control in gas transportation” in IGU, having the chance to get in touch
with IGU world and the opportunities it offers.
In 1996 he moved to the Operations Management, with increasing responsibilities in
operations connected with the operation and construction of gas transport
networks, until his appointment as HEAD of the North‐West Italy district.
In 2007 he was appointed Planning and Cost Control head for all Snam investments,
for more than 1 billion euro a year.
In 2010 he was appointed head of compression station department, having the full
responsibility of the 13 station of SNAM with 52 Gas Turbines/Compressors.
Under his management new innovative technologies were introduce in order to
improve the turbine efficiency and the reduction of the emissions.
Besides, a very important improvement in the reliability had been reached, with a
very high Mean Time Between Failure (over 2500 hours).
In 2013 he became Senior Vice president transportation network, having the
responsibility for maintenance and surveillance of all Snam gas pipelines network,
the construction of connection for new clients and of the technical department.
He had the responsibility of more than 34,000 km of pipeline, 13 compression
station, 1.300 people all over Italy and almost 200 M€/year of investments.
During this period, he gained sound management experience in the context of intra‐
departmental working groups (Risk Management Project, Network Code Project,
tutoring of young graduates, etc.).
He gave rise to a new project, called SMARTGAS, that completely changed the
approach to the management of the network, introducing new technologies and a
completely innovative role for the employees.
From October 2018 Maurizio is Chief Executive Officer of GNL Italia, having gained
broad and long‐standing experience in a career where he developed and
consolidated management skills on the basis of sound technical and process
innovation know‐how. GNL Italia is the company which owns and operates the LNG
regasification plant of Panigaglia (La Spezia) with a structure of about 100
employees.
Form April 2019 he is also Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Enura, a jont
venture between Snam and SGI (OTPP), with the task to realize and manage the new
gas network in the Sardinia Region.
From February 2020 to April 2022 he has been CO‐CEO of OLT (offshore LNG
Toscana) the company that manage the offshore LNG plant in center Italy, close to
Livorno.
In these two years, despite the COVID virus, thanks to very important preventive
measures, excellent results had been gained; the full regassification capacity has
been reached, with all the available slots.
Throughout his career, he has been actively involved in various associations and
committees, both at national (Italian Gas Committee, Italian Technical Gas
Association, UNI) and international level (International Gas Union (IGU), Group
Europeen de Recherche Gazier (GERG), Working Group on Compressor Station
(WGCS), Gas Transmission Benchmarking Initiative).
